Thanks, this seems like a feasible option. It is a bit annoying though,
that I have to open the PDF in Acrobat to scale it and then print it to
a new PDF through a ps2pdf conversion.
I have also tried to figure out how to do the conversion using
Ghostscript (the -sPAPERSIZE=a4 option), but I had no luck with that.

try including it in another latex document using pdfpages, it usually
scales it down to the size of the new document.
Nice suggestion, this works. This is a little more elegant than the
conversion through Acrobat Reader.
