There is also an online service available which runs this script: you can try this without having to download anything.

I am writing Chinese, so, I don't think this script works rightly for
non-english languages.

The script available from my page does not handle Chinese characters. However, I have a more recent version that I've been working on which should handle Chinese (and Japanese too I hope). This requires that you save the file with UTF-8 encoding; the older encodings which I believe are still often the default choice are not supported (at least not yet). This counts characters, not phrases, but I guess that is what you'd want.

Is it common in Chinese and Japanese contexts to require character counts (which would equate to space consumed), rather than word counts (which approximate conceptual content)?
