You should better have given a small, complete example instead of this
long explanation.

In any case: If fonts that work fine with pdflatex disappear with
latex+dvips this is in most cases due to an faulty map-file. dvips is a
bit picky.

To tell you how to check the map and how to correct it you will have to
give more informations about the fonts involved. So make a complete
minimal example that demonstrates your problem.
