with 'texdoc etex_man' (pdf) or 'texdoc etex_ref' (html).
Daniel, you can also have a look at the UK TeX FAQ (see David's signature),
which includes pages on e-TeX and pdfTeX (and also xetex, luatex, and a
TeXfuture page, while we're at it)...
