This document should be much more widely referenced.

frank's is the first i've heard about its status (i suppose i could
have asked him or michel, but...). i had intended to make reference
in the faq somewhere, if the status was likely "stable" (in some
sense), but i'm not entirely sure where i should stick the reference.
