I figured already out, that last year the pdf used "times roman" while
now it uses "NimbusRomanNo9L-Regular". I understand the advantage of
having an open alternative, but nevertheless I would like to build that
specific pdf with dvipdfm with the classic closed "Times Roman".
I would guess that last year, dvipdfm built a pdf without a "times
roman" font embedded and what you saw was whatever was available as a
substitute on your system, probably Times New Roman or Minion. This
year, dvipdfm is differently configured and is embedding Nimbus,
which is an exact clone of "classic" Times. So it's likely that your
description is exactly opposite to the actual situation.
In any case, the dvipdfm configuration is what has to be looked at. Use
File -> Document Properties -> Fonts
in the Adobe Reader to find out what fonts are either in the document or are
being substituted for non-embedded fonts.
