Table spanning two pages

Hello,

I was just asked if there's an analogue to the table* environment for
single-column two-sided documents. That is, a table that stretches
across a double-page spread. I was shown a book in which this occurred.
In this example, the inner page margins were fairly small so the gap
wasn't too obtrusive.

I know this can't really be done, but I thought the idea was
interesting. I figured that two adjacent tables with [b] spacing would
probably do the trick, although it'd be a little fragile and I don't
know how you'd ensure the first would be on a verso page. But that
solution was unsatisfactory anyway, since that would involve splitting
the table source into two halves, which was apparently undesirable.

I guess I'm not really asking a question, just pointing out a dubious
typesetting task that LaTeX mightn't be so good at performing
automatically.
