Strange behavior of \! after installing a package

I was hunting for a new symbol and i saw one in the tipa
package so i installed. Afterwards, \! works seldom (i
get compile errors when using multiple \!, sometimes even
if there's only one). Is this behavior anything of a known
issue? As soon as i dont load that package, everything is
back to normal. Also \; and company ceased to work.
