Some of us (including me) have to write multilingual sentences. It is a
pain, though, having to insert optional hyphenation points for various
words to prevent them from being hyphenated according to the rules of
the wrong language. All of that interstitial coding makes the markup
harder to edit.
Environments. \begin{locale}[german] ... \end{locale}. Or something
like that. Implementation left as an exercise for the reader, of
course. :)
I would suggest \begin{otherlanguage}{ngerman} or
\foreignlanguage{ngerman}{dies ist in deutsch}
To find out which package offers this environment and the command is
left as an exercise to the reader.
