What exactly do you not like about the square root? The spacing between
the root and the fraction could be decreased a bit, but otherwise I
think it looks fine.

The root on the LHS differs too much from the RHS one.
The problem is with the first root sign: the line with positive slope is far too steep, and there is too much spacing between the root and the fraction.
