Post a minimal example which exhibits the error.
Then one might be able to track it down.
Plenty of LaTeX2e is redefined by hyperref.
E.g. there is this \theHcounter-thing in hyperref.
It is used for automatic anchor-name creation when
referencing a counter.
\contentsline is redefined also...
