In the spirit that the customer is always right, I have decided to
produce the damned solutions manual. However I have cross-references
within the solutions, to other exercises, to chapters and sections, and
to equations. I would like to find a way to use *.aux files with the
cross-references from the book proper to get the right equation, section
and page numbers into the solutions. Has someone created a class or
style that does this sort of thing? I'm not sure how to formulate a
query, otherwise I would try the FAQ.
I'd recommend you have a switch in the preamble that selects:
a) to hide the solutions, as you have already, or
b) to display the solutions, *and* declares \nofiles.
Once you generate the regular book, you can generate the book with
solutions whose \ref and \pageref all point tho the numbers in the
original book.
If that's not what you want -- if you want two entirely different
documents, then try the xr package.
