personally, i'll believe the stix fonts when i see them: they've been
"imminent release" for so long now that i'm beginning to wonder
whether they'll be available before i retire...

I was speaking with Barbara Beeton about them (or it? won't it be just
a single unicode font?) the other week. Work is definitely on track.
Indeed, I just checked their website and:
"This site was last updated on April 19, 2006. Another update will be
provided next week, after a meeting of the STI Pub business group to
finalize plans for the beta release. A revised license should also be
available after the meeting."
I know "finalize plans" is a bit vague...
they don't meet definite deadlines, so you can imagine what they'll
make of a vague one. (whatever became of the 2004 release?)
(and then there's the licensing issues. a huge set of fonts that tug
isn't allowed to include in texlive ... bleah.)
That is indeed unfortunate, if the case. I don't see too much problem
with including a script that can download and install the relevant bits
and pieces, though. Provided it's well advertised.
so it'll be fine for people in universities and big corporations, just
about ok for people in small companies, or at home with broadband ...
and completely useless for people with dialup.
great.
