doubt with equations

Hello everyone,

I want to write the following:

a1 = a2 = a3 = x (1.1)
b1 = b2 = b3 = y (1.2)

how to do such type of things.

i have tried align.... but i don't get equation numbers.
what is the best approach. i have lot of equations like the above....
because i am trying to prove some symmetry in my proof.
