I'm assuming, since you mentioned Illustrator, that your intent here is to
install the fonts so you can create graphics in standard Windows
applications whose text labels match the fonts used in your LaTeX document.
You might also want to check out the PSfrag package. You can create your
graphics in Illustrator (or any other app that outputs EPS graphics) and use
any old font (say, Arial) to position text tags in your graphics. So now
you have EPS files with Arial text in them. PSfrag can then replace the text
tags with standard LaTeX typesetting commands. This allows you to replace
the Arial with CM or any installed LaTeX font. But more importantly, you can
replace the tag with just about ANY LaTeX commands, so you can drop
mathematical equations and the like into your graphics.
About the only drawback is the requirement to go through PostScript. But
more people today are shooting for PS or PDF output over DVI anyway.
