Search Could Not Load the Index - Help

I have created a pdf index on our intranet. I have named the index
with a short name (no symbols, etc.)

there are no error message when the index is created, everything seems
normal.

When I go to view the index I get this error message.

Search could not load the index (c:|documents and
setting\ccam.admin\local settings\temporary internet
files\content.ie5\U30LIJGD\PMRIndex[1].pdx. You may need to rebuild
this index.

I have rebuilt it several times, with the same result. I am building
the index on the intranet server, not on my local machine. I deleted
the PMRIndex[1].pdx file on my local machine, but that did not work
either

Does anyone know what is going on here?
