Having taken delivery of a new Xerox Phaser 7400DXF we were amazed to find
that black and white pages, whilst appearing to be B/W, were being printed
using coloured inks. This caused the cost of printing to rise from about
1p/A4 side to 7p/A4 side.
We finally traced the problem to a driver setting and were able to correct
it.
Has anyone else suffered from this? Was anyone warned of the problem?
We also find that many B/W illustrations have a colour content and are
having to take stringent precautions to eliminate this.
Again is this a common problem?
There are times when a "process black" (with a cmyk value) will cover a large area better than a k only value will. It can also have a richer black look than the k only black. Since the cost of printing on our Xerox printers (Docutech 6060's and Igen's) is a click charge (with a minimum clicks per month) this doesn't affect the page price.
