Hi Tony
I use the editor interface for analyzing dumps even when I don't have
source. I'll just edit an empty file and load the dump. Once loaded,
command.can switch to a Dumpanalyzer command line interface using the "DA"out. There are so many benefits to analyzing dumps this way, I hate to missFor example,But some of us dyed-in-the-wool oldsters still practise the DA arcana.
1. The context sensitive menus let you point and click your way through
some of the analysis. Much easier than some of DA's cryptic commands.
If you demystify it, we may have to join another priesthood :-)
And then there are some of us who are so old that we remember saying: "Who
needs a dumpanalyzer ? I can read hex. " ;-)

2. You can create editor macros for complicated Dumpanalyzer commandsSee above
(editor even has a default set of macros for Dumpanalyzer).
3. When using LIVEDUMP, you can do a "LOAD DUMP =" to refresh the dump. Now that has sneaked right around, over and under my mental block.
What's that Shakespearean phrase? Something along the lines of
"Vowing he'd ne'er consent, consented". I shall have to
investigate...

And I bet the dump was a on paper! Of course if we are looking at arithmetic data, octal is the way to go. Shifted data is much easier to recognize when formatted the way the arithmetic unit sees the bits.
