Well, that didn't pan out. I took the signal off pin 10 and routed it
through an inverter on a breadboard and then diretly to the monitor's
video input...thus removing the XOR gate (which was being used as an
inverter anyhow). Same dim picture.
So there appear to be only two things left. First, the monitor cable
itself between the brightness pot and the video board. Second, the
power supply? I'm quickly running out of options. I tested the cable
with an ohm meter and it seems to be OK, but that's not much of a
test, really. I looked at the power supply output and I'm getting 13V
on the 12V output. Which is odd, I think. However, I'm not sure that
would lead to this sort of problem.
