In the old days, I used to transfer programs from my PC to my model 4 by using the 5.25 drive, and a program that could read/ write on a pc drive to Tandy formats. I now have a p-4 2.8 system with win xp, and it will not recognize the 5.25 drive.

First we need to know if XP won't recognize the drive ,or if the machine
is the problem. Will the machine boot MS-DOS 5 or 6 from floppy ?
Is the 5.25" drive A: or B: ? Is there a 3.5" drive also in the
machine ? Do you need a MS-DOS boot disk ?

How easy is it to copy files from the PC to the trs-80 m4 with a term program and a null modem cable?
Quite easy ,it can be even be done with a few lines of basic code
on each machine. If there are a lot of files this will take too
much time to be practical.

Is there a better way? I really woud like to make some new system disks, using the .DSK images on various sites.
Sure , if you want to transfer lots of files ,or make system disks you
should run an emulator.

What will I have to do to get this done?
Gather the following :
1-Bootable floppy disk drive .
2-MS-DOS 5 or 6 boot disk w/ramdisk drivers.
3-Favorite MS-DOS version of a TRS model 4 emulator
on floppy disk.
4-DSK files ,boot disk ,others you want to convert on
floppy disks (images may be larger than disk watch out)
Set you bios so it can boot from floppy
Boot MS-DOS with a good size ram-disk
Install emulator to ram-disk.
set up emulator to boot dsk image ( Drive :0 )
set up real floppy as :1 or :2 (assuming :1 )
Set up DSK image to be copied as other drive
Backup :0 :1 (i,s) for a new TRS boot disk
Backup :2 :1 for a new TRS data disk

I have a 128K trs-80 model IV with green screen. the Boot drive is a 180k drive, but the second drive is upgraded to a 360k drive.

Nice setup !
HELP!
This is becoming more of a common problem due to XP's I/O handeling.
If any of the above is unclear please ask for clairifacation.
Standard disclaimers apply.

Its been forever since I had to transfer new programs over, but I want to try out a new terminal program I found online, and need to transfer the .DSK image over some how.

Thanks

Hope this helps ,

Mark Whitlock.
