I've reccently created an NSK support forum for Tandem professionals
who might want to share their experiences or ask doubts or even
resolve them. So far, I am yet to see a decent Tandem discussion forum
for us developers. I know there is a google group for this but I
thought a decent forum might provide better exposure to the world of
Tandem. In case anyone's interested, the site is at http://www.nskguru.com/.
The domain itself is parked on a free domain. Hope to move it to a
paid server very soon :) If you do not find any forum rules, it is
because there are none yet. Am still deciding on how authoritative I
should be ;) Feel free to start posting, however!
In other news, I am also looking for a few people to act as forum
moderators - people who can control the flow of discussions on the
board and at the same time be instrumental in helping the newbies
out :)
At the very least, I would appreciate it if you can give me some
constructive criticism about the site without joining it! Thanks!
I don't mean to be unnecessarily negative about this, but why is another Tandem-related site needed?
We already have this comp.sys.tandem network news group, the Tandem_Computers email list on Yahoo, and several Tandem-related groups on LinkedIn. That already seems like more places than would be ideal. Why do we need another Tandem-related site? Is there some need not being met by the three places I mentioned? If there is, and the new place meets that need plus all the needs the existing places already meet, perhaps you can attract enough participants to be successful. However, if the new forum doesn't offer anything new, but is just another place where people ask and answer questions about NonStop, it probably won't draw many people.
So, is there some unmet need that you intend to satisfy? If so, what is it?
I apologize for being a bit negative. I have a bit of a selfish reason: Another forum probably would make it harder for me to try to keep up with the questions about NonStop systems that people post since it would be yet another place to check. On the other hand, if you were successful in attracting most of the question/answer activity to your forum, that might make things easier for me, assuming the forum software were as easy to use as network news. Maybe I just haven't encountered forums that use good software, but the ones I have used feel to me like poor reinvention of network news, perhaps by people who never actually used network news.
(I tried to work in a joke about telling the youngsters to get off my lawn in there somewhere, but I couldn't think of a good way to do it.)
