The plug on the Spectrum TV Modulator is a phono plug easy to get.
So it is, silly me, how embarassing, thank you. I've made up a lead
out of CT100 with fully screened plugs at both ends, and it's much
better:

as opposed to http://www.kingqueen.org.uk/specturm.jpg as was...
There is still definite room for improvement though.
Why don`t you go the video way to the TV card?
Its easy to do that mod on a Spectrum.
I assume capturing the signal some way before the modulator and
outputting it through composite to Scart or something?
Ohhh yes forgot to mention some of these pc TV cards are not that clever with TV signals.
yes I agree. I've had a really rubbish one in the past. The one I've
got now actually seems half-decent...
One is a 5+ volt
Other is the video IN to the modulator.
You can do this 2 ways.
1:- solder a piece of wire about 2 inches long to the video In and then drill a small hole into the Spectrum case, then use a phono socket attached to the wire. So you can have a phono lead coming from the Spectrum to a video card. OR you can buy a scart lead and use the yellow phono this is the Video signal and then ignore the other 2 red and white these are the 2 audio leads.
2:- take the top of your Spectrum modulator off, Unsolder the lead going to the phono socket inside your modulator. Cut the video IN so its a seperate alone wire not going any where. DONT let it tough any thing.
Solder a small piece of insulated wire to the end of the video wire that you cut, then take that through the hole that it went through in the Spectrum modulator and then solder it to the phono socket.
Cut the 5+ volt line, you do this in case of any kind of interference.
Result is a good video signal.
It is not really necessary to do number 2, but I did as I did not want to drill a hole in my case.
The end result is worth while, if you have no worries about cutting and soldering.
On eBay there are kits that you can buy that will do the same job.
I have done this mod with a 48k Spectrum and a ZX81 both good results.
Mike.
