I don't have a TV so I have a video in card on the computer. It works
quite well. So I've taken the RF lead from the Spectrum (48k Issue 2 I
believe) and plugged it into the RF in on the computer. Then I've
tuned the TV card to Channel 36 and fine tuned it.
The picture is more than a bit wobbly / imperfect, more than I
remember from 20 years ago. Here's a screenshot:

I suspect it is a shielding issue. Initially when I connected the
aerial to the computer, it was very bad quality, until I replaced a
splitter with a shielded one, then it improved a lot. There is a lot
of electrical equipment in / near my computer probably producing a
fair amount of interference.
So I was thinking of making up my own shielded RF lead for the
spectrum.
I have two questions.
1) does anybody else think that it is likely that this is the problem
and that this will assist?
2) the plug on the end of the RF lead which comes into the Spectrum,
is an odd one. what is it called and is it possible to buy one not
prefitted, so I can fit it myself?
Thank you!
Why don`t you go the video way to the TV card?
Its easy to do that mod on a Spectrum.
Mike.
