The serial cable Interface-1 <-> PC works perfectly! You did a great

Phew - I am glad. I had to delay posting for a few days, as the info I got from the web was confusing. My knowledge of the QL nomenclature helped a lot, and the IF1 had _exactly_ the same odd naming. Not only is RX actually OUTPUT, but RTS is labelled DTR. This latter naming causes a lot of people to make the mistake of connecting that to DTR on the PC end. This is _wrong_ and means there is no handshaking on that line.

The reason is simple. When Sinclair designed the system, the serial port was for _printing_ and DTR made complete sense.

Thanks to "Dave J" for his confirmatory input. I posted the original pinouts on my ISP usenet group by mistake. Just as well as he was the only one to confirm that my first guess pinouts were right.

I already loaded successfully tons of .SNA on the spectrum from pc, and
saved my listings on pc, running them on the BASin emulator (which
allows the copy/paste of text inside basic editor). It's amazing how
new and old technologies can work together. :)))
Indeed. I use a QL emulator on the PC, which happily accepts all the ROM extensions.
I also use a DOS version of the QL archive database program in a _small_ dos window on my 1680 x 1050 XP screen. It is only then one realises how small the screens were on the original QL, and presumably Spectrum (8-)#
I still use my DOS programs for all my accounting. I cannot imagine I will change. They work, and I do not want (even like) flashy screens - which is all a windows based system will offer.

By the way: later today i'll reply to your email.. sorry for the delay,
haven't spent much time lately at pc!

Hugs Tony!
Sandra
Look forward to more in the private email (8 - )#

Tony
