SimCoupe disk access question

How do I get SimCoupe to allow disk access? I've created a .DSK file via
the program's Options...Disk window, and it's created an 800k .DSK file,
and I've selected it from the File menu as Floppy 1, but when I type BOOT
to enable the DOS commands I get the error "53 No DOS", so I presume that
there's no DOS been set up in the .DSK file to boot from (although it
chugged away for ages when I created it).
I presumed that SimCoupe would put DOS on there when it created the disk,
but apparently not. The SimCoupe instructions say it can boot from Floppy
1 but give no explanation of how to do so. What am I missing?
Also, which of the SAM manuals at NVG is the correct one for the disk
drive? (The disk commands aren't documented in the general manual - in the
glossary the comment against all the disk commands is "Only works with
disks", which isn't very helpful.) There seem to be several which it might
be (although there's not one which says "disk manual"), and I don't want
to download them all as it would take ages on my modem.
