Re: Indigo2 software etc.

Hi

I'm actually new to the Indigo2 (got it last week) and don't know so much about unix, though I have used many systems and unix/linux some (I collect computers out of interest and I use them), so I have some questions:

I have tried to set the correct time and found that the timezone was set to the wrong continent. What is the /etc/TIMEZONE TZ= for Norway/Oslo?

I have installed mozilla can I replace the old Netscape with it? It doesn't appear as a choise in the default web browes setup window. If I can get Mozilla to do all what Netscape did can I then uninstal Netscape (is it a good idea)?

The harddisk is full and I don't really know what to delete (until I find out what all of it is, there seems to be no personal stuff there anyway). I was wondering if it might be easy to install a second harddisk (I have several candidates, but need a sled). Is a second haddrive a good solution?

I was also wondering if it is possible to change the harddisk for a bigger one. It came with an external DAT tape "player" (and I just made a full backup today). Would it be possible to just exchange the harddisk and restore the backup to it? What would I need to do?

Hope this is a good group for these questions (maybe I should have split it up and posted to several groups). :-)

Great success. I just upgraded my harddisk. Swapping the 2.1GB with a 9.1GB. Slightly tricky because I can only have both drives when the old is inside and the new is outside, not when the new is inside, for some reason...

Had to fx, repartition the drive from the maintenance "console" using Brent Bates' notes in drive installing (see http://www.vigyan.com/~blbates/sgi/index.html ). The I let it do the install from an older overlay set of IRIX 6.5 installing what it could and finally let it restore a backup from the DAT tape.

It then booted straight up, no problem at all.

:-)
