OK, if your GPS has a serial interface, you don't need to go anywhere near
USB.

I'm not familiar with a serial interface being presented as a 'PS/2'
connection. Is this a mini DIN plug, like the one you would find on a mouse
or computer keyboard? If so, you should be able to get an adapter which
converts this to a normal 9-pin D-connector - the sort of thing which would
enable you to plug a PS/2 mouse into a serial port.

Once you've done that, you will have one 9-pin female D-connector on the end
of the wire coming from the Psion, and another 9-pin D-connector on the end
of the wire coming from the GPS. In order to connect these together, you
need a null modem/gender bender consisting of two 9-pin male D-connectors,
back to back - with pin 5 on one connected to pin 5 on the other, and pin 2
on each connected to pin 3 on the other one to provide the necessary
crossover.

This will not provide power to the GPS, so you'll have to find an
alternative way of doing that. Are there any other connectors on the GPS
other than this PS/2 thing? If not, you'll have to find out which pin on
that requires power, which pin on the D-connector that corresponds to, and
inject some power onto the appropriate pin of the null modem.
