Probably this:

"In the case where updates occur to a document from both the handheld
and the desktop, Documents To Go will place a duplicate of each file on
both the handheld and the desktop."

You will get a message similar to the following in such a case:

<begin message after synch>
Documents To Go Message(s)
RS Flight log
Content was modified on both the desktop and the handheld.
Both versions of this record were copied to the Desktop and the
handheld. Delete the unwanted record and perform a HotSync operation
again.
RS Flight log
There is a record on the desktop that had exactly the same title.
The title of this item was changed to the following: "RS Flight
log_1"
<end message>

Note that exactly the same thing will happen with, for example, Memos:

<begin message after synch>
- The following record was modified on both the Palm Desktop and the
handheld:
"Now is the time for all good men to come to the aid that
of"
Both versions of this record were copied to the Palm Desktop and
the handheld.
Delete the unwanted record and perform a HotSync operation again.
OK Memos with 1 message(s)
<end message>

The Palm and DTG software are preventing you from losing data. What
would you have them do differently in this situation? Which data do
you want to lose?

I normally manage synchronization via the conduit settings on the Palm
Desktop and mostly use "Handheld overwrites PC" as the default.

With DTG you can turn off synchronization using either the PC DTG
software or the handheld DTG software. You need to learn to manage
your file synchronization.

Also the program often froze

What? DTG has "never" frozen for me and I'm not aware of any
widespread freezing problems. Palm ships DTG with each unit they sell
for a reason. You may have some other third party software that is the
real culprit.

or seemed to cause other things to froze
so I stopped using it.

"seemed to" ?

I was synching with two machines and using DTG 8
premium.

Again, this is a good way to get into trouble unless you carefully
manage your conduits.

Didn't make much effort to find out why.
Apparently.

You are right to be sarcastic about my sloppiness with this. However,
as with all things, one chooses one's battles and I did have problems
with DOCTOGO freezing the palm that ended when I stopped using it. I do
miss its functionality though and your careful explanation of the
issues, most of which I knew but was being sloppy about, reminds me
that a little care will pay off. Another app that I use heavily,
Bonsai, has caused me serious trouble, but its so important to how I
function that I took the time to learn to synch properly.
Thanks for the help.
