I tried the 700p and returned it very fast. It was SLOW, the battery
wore so quickly just using it for phone and my usual palm usage--and
I'm not a power user by any means.
Well, everyone has his own preferences. I have a Treo 650, and I think it's wonderful. It's true that streaming audio from the internet for a couple hours will drain most of the battery, but I haven't had significant battery issues other than that. I charge mine every night, but I'd guess that the original poster's UX50 needs that too. Also note that the battery (at least in a 650) can be taken out, so if your battery gets old and tired you can replace it.

I've had a Clié UX50 for almost three years. In many ways it's still
the finest Palm-based PDA ever made. People even now ask me about it
when I pull it out. That said, I'm thinking hard about getting a
Sprint 700p because of a) EV-DO and b) the convenience of carrying
around one device instead of two.
What'll I give up by the switch? I know that compared to the UX50, the
700p lacks
* Widescreen (320x480) versus the 700p's 320x320 screen
* 802.11b
* Robust magnesium casing
In return, besides the 3G EV-DO data service support (which Sprint
charges a mere $15/month for) and the phone/PDA combination, I'll also
gain
* 1.3-megapixel camera versus the UX50's 0.3 megapixels
* MMC/SDIO expansion versus the UX50's Memory Stick
* IMAP-compatible mail app (Clié Mail only does POP)
What else, if anything, am I missing?
Good:
* Dialing phone numbers directly from the contacts application is great. But maybe you can do that with your UX50?
* You can actually dial phone numbers directly from the internet browser. So, you can google for a restaurant (or whatever), and dial the phone number it finds.
* Having a single switch that silences alarms and phone ringing makes it less likely to forget to turn one of them off.
* Being able to stream audio from the internet is nice (and the 700p should be better at that than the 650, with EV-DO).
* You already mentioned it, but the MMC/SDIO expansion slot is a big deal. Nothing except some Sony devices use memory sticks. SD cards are everywhere and therefore probably cheaper and hold more, and adapters for them are being built into things like laptops these days.
Not so good:
* I don't use the 650's mail application much, but I hear it's not that great. Most serious users apparently switch to one of several alternative applications. But the alternatives are well liked.
If you get the 700p, see if Sprint still has a $10 data plan. I got one last year. It doesn't get me any free text messages, but it's still unlimited internet access.
