Jim,
I looked at the article and didn't follow how it would solve the same
problem. All it showed was the standard sync direction or do nothing
options. It doesn't show how to change whether you sync to Outlook or
the Palm Desktop. And it doesn't show how to make that choice as
granular as which items will sync with Outlook and which items will
sync with the Palm Desktop.

I've wanted to do this for a while and finally succeeded, thought I
would share the solution with others. I prefer the way Tasks are
handled and printed in the Palm Desktop, everything else I let Outlook
handle. I recently figured out how to mix the conduits, something not
possible using the standard Palm setup software.
To make this work, you have to unregister the Outlook Task conduits and
register the Palm Task conduits. The easiest way to do this is download
and install the Conduit Developer Kit from
http://www.palmos.com/dev/dl/dl_sdks/
Once this is installed run C:\Program Files\PalmSource\Palm OS
CDK\Common\Bin\CondCfg.exe
This displays all the current conduits and their details. Find the two
Task conduits: To Do List (Outlook) and Tasks (Outlook) and delete
them. Then click on the Add button and fill in the following values:
Creator ID: todo
Display Name: To Do List
Filename: SgTasksCn.dll
Desktop data dir: todo
Desktop data file: todo.dat
click Apply and OK, then click the Add button _again_ and fill in the
following values:
Creator ID: PTod
Display Name: Tasks
Filename: SgTasksCn.dll
Desktop data dir: todo
Desktop data file: todo.dat
click Apply and OK
And voila, the next time you HotSync your Tasks will be written to the
Palm Desktop and not Outlook. Use this method for other Palm conduits
you want to use instead of the Outlook ones.
WAY overkill, just change conduit actions in Hotsync Manager.

Changing conduit settings in the HotSync Manager.

once you have both sets installed just turn off the one you do not want
to sync, turn on the ones you want to sync, using the article as a
guide.
