They should exist in your Temp folder.

This does not occur with the version of Hotsync I use with my Treo 650:
I can easily install a PRC within a zipped file without "officially"
unzipping it using XP's built-in zip handler. Immediately after
double-clicking the PRC is located--unzipped--within the Temp hierarchy
(in a folder named after the zip file). It is then copied to the
QuickInstall\HandHeld folder for my device. Even if I close the zip
file, which "should" remove the Temp folder, the file will still install
as it's sitting in that QuickInstall folder by then.

However, installing applications that have a number of files to deal
with during installation will often fail if launched via a zipped
Explorer window (e.g., Windows applications). But that's a different
ballgame.
