While shopping for a PDA I googled up an article that shows in detail how to
take that model apart and replace the battery. The process the author used
to open the unit was to heat the back of the case with a hairdryer to soften
the glue that it's bonded with. If you google with the keywords "Palm
battery replacement" I think you should be able to find it.
