No more advance exchanges on Tungsten C? Digitizers breaking again and again?

I'm a bit disappointed with my Tungsten C purchase, and Palm in general,
at the moment.

I use my T|C a ton. Don't get me wrong. I've gotten a lot of good out of
my T|C.

-But-:

1) I'm on my second replacement unit, and I'm about to get a third, all
due the same sort of digitizer breakage (plus one had wifi trouble, and my
current one has a five-way that isn't debounced right anymore). That's
right - a total of four T|C's, and in less than a year. -And-, I put off
replacing this one for a while, thinking I would just get the same problem
again - until the end of the warranty period.

2) On the second replacement, they did an advance exchange at no extra
charge, since I was having the same problem again - which was a good move
in terms of customer service, but shouldn't they have done something to
help ensure the problem wouldn't just happen again?

3) On this third replacement, they are telling me that they no longer do
advance exchanges on T|C's at all, let alone at no additional cost.

So I'm going to be faced with 5-7 days (business days?) without a PDA,
unless I buy a new one - which seems a bit silly, when I got a high-end
model less than a year ago. They're telling me it's because the T|C is
too old a model now.

What's the deal? Why do the digitizers keep breaking the same way, and
how can they tell me they don't do advance exchanges anymore to at least
take some of the sting out of the recurring hardware problems?

On top of this, I tried to do my third exchange via e-mail, but they told
me I would have to call Palm support to get an exchange. So I called Palm
support, and they told me they couldn't look up my history based on the
case id # I got from their free e-mail service. And then, the phone
support told me I should try their e-mail support. Not only that, but
while I was on hold on their support line, first the music started cutting
out, and then the line was dropped altogether. So I had to call back
again. Fortunately, on my second call, even though I had been told they
were experiencing unusually high call volume, on that second time (this
time around), I got through immediately.

Also, on my second exchange, I asked if they could install a glasstop from
pdaparts.com, since they claim to have more resilient digitizers, but
palm refused to do so.

I've been eying the T|X more than a little bit, but
the Nokia 770 is starting to look better all the time, despite the many
hours of time I've invested in learning about the large number of free
PalmOS applications.

I'm pretty massively bummed out with palm right now. The old IIIxe's
were solid workhorses, but this T|C has been a lot of trouble, and
my wife's T|E had digitizer trouble too that's relegated it to the scrap
heap.

Thanks for listening. Sorry it's nearly all grumbling. :-S
