Spaces in Lion

OK, I upgraded my MBP to Lion. Then I noticed that I didn't see the
Spaces screen number in the menu bar.

<rant>
What was Apple thinking? They implemented Spaces perfectly in SL and
then cut it off at the knees in Lion. No X/Y grid? No screen number?
Wish I hadn't upgraded. You listening, Apple? Uncripple Spaces please!

Let's hope we see changes to Mission Control/Spaces soon.
