Well, bugger me! The whinemeister Brian Clark has released Thoth
version 1.85 and...it's free! (For existing registered users). Maybe

Simply putting out updates doesn't mean that software is supported. In
particular, Thoth is still a PPC-only binary. No need to resort to
personal insults; there just isn't enough reason to go back to using
Thoth on a regular basis.
Absolutely right.
Brian Clark did a great job with Thoth and he even send out a few
updates to his customers after shutting down shareware sales. Although
a PPC program, it works fine with 10.6 on Intel Macs.
I tested several programs, ending up with Unison as a replacement for
Thoth. Later, I found out, that Thoth is still the better program for
me - it simply does everything I need.
Same situation for me with Eudora - when it comes to real work, all
replacements did not everything, what I expected from a good email
client. And it still runs on Snw Leopard systems.
