When I installed Snow Leopard I was reminded that I hadn't used my
CD/DVD slot since Leopard came out!

I suspect you are an exception, not the rule. And to say so
conclusively what the future is one way or the other is ludicrous, as
the past has proven so many times before.
I don't claim unique prescience, just prescience. When the writeable CD
hit the market I wasn't the only one to predict with certainty that it,
and cheap HDs, would kill the floppy disk. Hit that nail on the head,
what? (Apologies to Windows users lurking here who are still using
floppies or who are pining for the floppy to come back and who don't
know what I'm talking about.)
And I stand by my prediction that broadband and even cheaper HDs will
kill the CD and DVD. A hard drive costing under $300 (that was
yesterday; it may be cheaper now) can store 500 HD movies. I am not the
only one who can download a movie in under an hour, and, of course, I
don't need to complete a download in order to begin watching
stutter-free. So what does a DVD or Bluray have to offer me?
If I am the exception, I will one day be the rule. After all, somebody
has to lead.
Davoud

I agree with everything that you have said and everything that
you will say in your entire life.
