When I started using 4, typing in a name into the url field now doesn't
know where to go, and defaults to a list of possibilities from my isp,
like Explorer on Windows. It used to default to the .com, which I
prefer (e.g. if I type "apple" it went to apple.com site). Is there a
setting for this?
I believe the .com default is only performed if looking up the name
without .com fails. Your ISP may have changed their DNS so it
automatically returns the address of a search page when a lookup fails,
and this defeats Safari's defaulting.
Maybe it was a change at Verizon at the same time. Thanks for the info.
AT&T is doing a lot of upgrades, and they are kicking back google
responces to servers not found, too. Not every time, but enough to
cripple the .com default feature for Safari. They, of course, are
catering toWindoze users who don't have that feature, so bitching won't
help.
