Hello all,
I'm having a VERY difficult time trying to download the
_Windows version_ of Quicktime. I'm trying to do this on my
Mac, to create a CD with the installer file on it which I
will then give to someone with a Windows laptop.
I've tried numerous times to "reach" Apple's download page
for Quicktime for Windows, using various search strings,
both through google and on Apple's own web site.
EVERY time, it "dumps me" to a Quicktime download page - but
only offers me _Mac_ versions of QT to download.
I'm _guessing_ that Apple's site is "sensing" that I'm on a
Mac, and only offers me the Mac versions as a result.
Question 1:
How does one access Apple's Windows downloads (while
operating on a Mac) via their website? Perhaps I'm missing
something _very_ simple here, but again, I can't reach a
page offering me a download the Quicktime version of WIndows.
Question 2:
Does there exist at Apple any ftp sites that look like this?
http://apple.doit.wisc.edu/Apple_Support_Area/
(Obviously, this page is _not_ at Apple, but you can see
what I mean)
RANT:
On several occassions, I've tried to search Apple's site for
software, and even trying to get to _Mac_ software, I find
their pages often confusing. Worse, if you need to find an
_older_ version of something, it's often removed. Why not
give us access to _all_ the stuff? Let _me_ make the
decision as to what I need for my system, even an older one.
I thought Macs were supposed to make things _easier_ - not
the other way around.
END OF RANT
(I would also like to add that I've been a Mac user
EXCLUSIVELY since 1987 - 22 years - and do not do Windows.
Just trying to find the file to download.)
Thanks,
- John
This should not be a problem, just a matter of a little patience finding
the right page. I used to do the opposite fairly often. Before I
switched from dialup to a high-speed connection, as you could imagine it
took approximately forever to download (Mac) system software updates.
But I found that I could download the installers on a Windows XP work
computer, burn them to a CD, and take the CD home. It wasn't THAT hard
to find the Mac software updates on the Windows box, and it was a far
more pleasant way of getting the updates than waiting for dialup to
finish (or, more likely, die before finishing).
