Macs will play any MP3 and most other audio files. And you can download
tens of thousands of songs for free- legally- at www.archive.org (check
the "Live Music Archive) and listen to 'em on your Mac. And there are
many other legal sources of music on the Web.
And of course you can rip any CDs you happen to own already. By default
when you stick a music CD in the drive iTunes pops up and asks if you
want to import the tracks, gets info from Gracenote and downloads album
artwork if you want. Saves tracks as AAC file unless you set it to save
in some other format like mp3.
