I discovered that a folder of documents (the folder is in my Documents
folder) included several documents that apparently were originally

the
folder originally contained appeared to be missing. I then discovered
that
one of the ³several documents that apparently were originally located
elsewhere in my Documents folder² was, in fact, the ³original² document
that
appeared to be missing: It wasn¹t missing at all, it just had its name
changed to the same name as a document elsewhere in my Documents folder.
And
the other "originally located elsewhere" documents were actually copies.
Clear as mud, huh? OK...let me try to explain it this way:
Folder X originally contained 10 documents: Doc 1, Doc 2, Doc 3, ....,
Doc
10. Suddenly I noticed that it now contains 12 documents: Doc 1, DOC A,
Doc
3, ...., Doc 10, DOC 11, DOC 12, where DOC 11 and DOC are copies of
documents elsewhere in my Documents folder; and DOC A is actually Doc 2,
but
whose name had been changed to the name of DOC A, also a document
located
elsewhere in my Documents folder.
I was able to trace the weird situation back several months by examining
the
contents of my Time Machine backup drive. The date(s) of the
occurrence(s)
doesn¹t seem to coincide with anything in particular -- though, given
the
way TM ³consolidates² backups after a month, it¹s really difficult to
tell.
Has anyone seen this kind of problem before?
No kernel panic or hard shutdowns (e.g. power failure)?
I've had 3 kernel panics since buying the iMac last spring: the first less
than 2 weeks after getting the machine; the second, at the beginning of
September; the last, in early December. AFAICT, the appearance of "copies"
of documents occurred between September (which, BTW, was the month I
originally created the folder and its contents) and November; the
"renaming"
of the document I first thought was missing occurred between the end of
November and early December.
I have had some oddball situations (Mac hanging when attempting to log
off)
that required a "hard" shutdown (i.e., pressing the power key) on a number
of occasions (part of the rash of performance problems I had/have).
I have not a problem like that but if I had, I would immediately run
DiskWarrior to build a new, clean disk directory.
I received MacTools Pro and DiskWarrior for OS X as gifts last month
(replacing my OS 9 versions), and have run them a bunch of times (as well
as
Disk Utility). Nothing has shown up except the "usual" minor nits. The
disk
directory (according to DW) has less than 1% of its contents out of order.
Tu madre.
Ella dice: ³mmmffffttt - glugg!²
¿Mi madre? _Tu_ madre ... y tu hermana, y tu esposa, y tu hija -- teniendo
cada uno su vez, y cada uno diciendo "yum, yum"!
