Using an Intel Mac with 2gb ram with updated Leopard.
When starting up, the hard drive does its usual whine, then stops, and
starts again. I get the Apple logo on the grey background. But it
refuses to go further. Just does this over and over. Its like its
hitting some block on the startup. So I take that hard drive and try it
on another Mac. It sees it perfectly. I try some utilities to test it
- tests 100%. It behaves perfectly.
Then I take the 2nd hard drive I use all the time on that system
(firewire) and plug it into the other Mac. Its invisible. Nothing in
the Finder. Yet its looks perfect in Disk Utility. It tests fine in
Disk Warrior and Tech Tool Pro 4. Its like something made it invisible.
I turn on invisible files in case that is it (though I've never heard of
an entire hard drive being made invisible) but its still not there.
If anyone has any clue as to what could have caused this it sure would
be great! Its quite incredible that 2 bizarre occurrences happened at
the same time. They don't seem to be related yet they probably are.
boot in verbose mode by holding down the command and v keys. you'll
see a lot of text scroll by, and it might offer a clue as to where it's
hanging up. post anything that looks relevant.
I can't save it - I thought I might take a photo of the screen and post
it to a high res photo site so the tiny text could be visible. I almost
need a macro lens to make it work. It stops after these 2 lines:
BSD root: disk OS2, major 14, minor 2
AppleIntelCPUpowermanager: initialization complete
