Thanks. That is either new in Tiger, or it's settings are new.
It's a legacy from the Unix roots...
Still, the Console it cites is also nearly empty.
I'll have to study it's other files more carefully.
Once you learn how it works, ( man syslog, man syslog.conf ) it's
possible to redirect *some* logging to where you would like it.
Personally, I send all syslog output to /var/log/system.log
UNfortunately, not all apps and system funtions use syslog so
the result is that there are logs of various things scattered
in obscure and not so obscure places.
/Library/Logs and ~Library/Logs are a couple of other log locations.
One of my minor gripes with OS X is that IMO all logging should
be through syslog. I hope that there was some reason that I'm
unaware of that this is not the case.
