One major draw-back for USB is that the slowest device on a USB bus
causes all other devices to communicate at that same slow speed.
Firewire doesn't have this limitation.

Are you saying that if I have a USB 1.0 device plugged into a USB 2.0
hub with 2 USB 2.0 devices they will all run at USB 1.0 speed?
