Steven, Machine: Power Mac G5 A1047. Pulled battery, checked over 3.5
V on my meter. Power on, power button flashes 3 times, pause, repeat
etc. With clear plastic cover off, fans blow full, single red led
toward front. Clear cover on, fans go down, red led off.
Volt meters are pretty useless for determining a battery's health.
Oh, puhleeeze! And the world is inscrutable, we're all gunna die, so why
bother?
These batteries are nominal 3.6v lithium. A NEW one should measure 3.7v.
3.5v means it's old. Replace it. And when you're buying the new one
INSIST that they check the voltage before you leave the store and it's
3.7v. Once upon a time I bought a 'new' one of these from Radio Shack,
installed it and the problem persisted. Measured the voltage of the
supposedly new battery: 3.47v. It must have been on the shelf for a
thousand years. Returned the battery for a fresh one at 3.7v; problem
gone.
Then again, John's suggestion about the video cables is a good one. Try
both solutions.
