I'd like to use TM on my laptop but don't want to always have the TM
drive attached. e.g. I travel for business periodically and don't want
to necessarily carry the TM drive everywhere. Is TM robust enough to
handle the repeated absence/presence of the TM disk? Also, anyone
using the portable usb powered drives for this purpose?
No need to worry, it works just fine, ie it will do a backup whenever it
can (after at most 1 hour), plus you can start it manually from the menu
bar "back up now". I use it like that (on a total of 5 computers) and it
has never failed with the exception of a MacPro with hardware errors, so
I cannot blame TimeMachine for that :-)
