[wanting to convert a Pages document to a .gif or .jpg so it could be
exported to Flickr]
The Solution i hit upon was to print the page; Then Scan it at 300 dpi. No
Problem.
To repeat what I've posted much further along in this thread.....
a) Export the document from Pages as a .pdf
b) Open the .pdf in Preview
c) Save the document from Preview as either a .jpg or .gif, setting the
resolution as desired.
Simple and quick, taking about twenty seconds. And given that Preview is an
included application with OS X there is no need to acquire any additional
software.
Actually, it's even easier: Print, then click Preview, then save as
JPEG. That way you don't have the temp PDF hanging around cluttering
things up, and you don't have to worry about opening Preview.

It's not quite that simple on my box for some reason...???
( perhaps because i'm actually trying it, and not just making ***
up...??? )
How do you tell it to save as a JPEG...?
When i Previewed from ( Pages '08 / Print / Preview /
It opens ( of all things...??? ) A Safari document, and when i try to
save this,
It only allows me to choose the name & destination.
And then it's saved as a .pdf
So i open the .pdf and it opens with Preview
Then from Preview, i can save a page as a JPEG OR JPEG 2000
And they both seem about the same... around 150 dpi ( wild guess )
Which is very jaggy in the details.
Once you've saved a few things at 300 dpi, Anything short of that,
looks really crappy.
???
