How long have you left it alone? Secure delete can take some time if
there are a lot of files.

The MBP will not respond at all. I force restart and it has deleted some
but not all files. I assume since I can't open the screen that it is
frozen.

He asked how long you've left it alone. From your response, I infer that
you have not waited at all, you've force-restarted right away. Is that
accurate?

Sometimes an hour, others 30 minutes. I assume while it is deleting that
I should still be able to open the screen.

Meanwhile, have you run any disk utilities, such as Disk Utility, to
examine and repair your directories?

No....but just ran it and reports "OK"

I notice you haven't responded to my suggestion that you examine the
system log. Have you decided that's not worth the effort or something?

I could only get the log to cover today's activities. I was going to
look again to see if there was a way to get prior activity when I had
more time. And didn't want to respond with no info.

Thanks for the suggestion.
