Is there a way? FF 3. I don't see any obvious toggles.

FireFox provides control over how it handles PDF documents in
Windows. I don't have Firefox installed on my iMac. But the following
sequence of instructions works with Windows. Try it out and let me
know if it works with OSX.
In FireFox
Click on Tools
Click on Options
Well, there's the first snag since, at least in Mac FF 3.0.1, the Tools
menu doesn't have 'Options' !
In OS X, "Options" = "Preferences".
Open Firefox Preferences and click on the Applications tab.
Look for "Adobe", "Acrobat", and "PDF". None of them there, at least
not in my copy of 3.01.
Open the Help for "Applications Preferences". Read where it says,
"The Applications panel lets you choose applications and other handlers
to handle different types of content (e.g. PDF documents)."
Give up.
