I believe I was the original poster for the _first_ thread (not this current one). I had picked up a Sandisk "Cruzer" and wanted to get rid of the U3 software, which I knew nothing about.
The only way to delete the U3 software is on a machine running Windows. Once you've got one of these gadgets mounted on the Windows desktop, it's easy enough to find the U3 utility app that deletes the U3 partition.
But you CAN'T get rid of it using the Mac OS.
So, if the original poster of THIS thread is reading, he has two choices:
Choice 1: Take the flashdrive in question to a PC (or Mac!) running Windows, and delete the U3 partition.... or....
Choice 2: Live with the "extra partition" on the Mac desktop.
It's really as simple as that....
I'm wondering if one couldn't take a U3 flashdrive to an Apple Store (which should have at least one of their computers set up to run/demonstrate Windows on the Mac), explain to one of the techs there that you want to "convert" the flashdrive to "Mac only", and have one of them mount it on the Windows side and delete the U3 partition....
