Pretty sharp Mike. You do have a good memory. :) Yes it is. I'm
retiring this made in hell device and backing its contents up before I
do. Do you think flac somehow stresses the system more in some way so
errors that might be present in the hard drive are revealed moving flac
files that might otherwise remain dormant otherwise?

Have you just tried dragging the flac files from one disk to the other?
I've never copied and then pasted a file in my Macintosh life which is
now going on over 20 years.

I think that is the same thing isn't it? Some experts here could
confirm that or not.

The actual copy operation should be identical.
